About the work
Robert Orchardson's work draws on a range of sources from modernist architecture and futuristic design, including utopian manifestos, stage sets and details from science fiction films. This cultural flotsam surfaces in architectonic sculptural installations and his prints, where he uses vivid block colours and sharp silhouettes to invoke the legacies of geometric and biomorphic abstraction. This work refers to a group of architects working in Germany in the 1920s for whom the crystal represented values of truth, transparency and transcendence in modern architecture.
This work has been included in the Government Art Collection.
